By: Sunny Zatzick and Ella Tsang
The Britannia Senior Boys worked hard for their 64-52 win against Westview at 12 PM today. The score was opened by Kelly Ochieng, who continued to win Brit’s next basket as well. Liam Gregoire won multiple points in free throws and open play in the first quarter, a highlight alongside Alex Liu, Munashe Sephani, and Adam Mestinsek’s playing.
The second quarter featured 3-pointers from Osiris Jacob and Sephani. Notably, Mestinsek was able to win back possession multiple times, denying Westview points and in the last two minutes leading to a basket from Ochieng. Gregoire won free throws, including one in the last minute of the quarter to lead into halftime at 35-17.
The third quarter spotlighted Ochieng with an impressive dunk in the third minute after intercepting Westview’s play, and a crucial block of a Westview shot. Liu was also a necessary factor to Brit’s success, making the first basket of the quarter and later on making a smooth 3-pointer. The game grew more aggressive in this quarter, however Brit remained collected and concentrated, leading to the quarter ending with a lead of 47-25.
The last quarter proved Brit’s strong defence and strength after an aggressive game. Although at the beginning of the game the two teams were neck in neck, Brit was able to pull ahead and keep the lead to end the game with a score of 64-52. The Britannia Senior Boys will be competing for first place tomorrow at 5:45 PM.
