In the third minute the score was 16-2 with fouls 0-2, setting the stage for the successful possession that Brit would hold for most of the game. Kagande made 2/2 shots when she was fouled to make it 20-4, and the first quarter ended at an impressive 38-4 after a point was scored in the last 30 seconds by Sienna Brown.
In the second quarter Brit showed strong defence and scored 22 points while only conceding 11 more, exiting the quarter with the score 50-15. Brit dove back into the third quarter with enthusiasm from the team and players. The first point was won by Wilson, followed by baskets from Kagande, Lee, and again Kagande in the last 5 minutes to make it 60-17. In the last minute Brown won a point to mark Britannia 50 points ahead of Byrne Creek with 61-21.
The last quarter saw no break in Brit’s success. A standout play featured a give and go pass from Scarlett-Charleson and Padolina on a quick counter play, leading to a point by Scarlett-Charleson. The final score was 91-26, Cheyenna Wilson claiming top scorer with 22 points.
Britannia Senior Boys vs. Windsor
The senior boys started their first match against Windsor at 1:45pm today to the cheers of a packed Britannia gymnasium. Their starters were Alex Liu, Munashe Sephani, Osiris Jacob, Kelly Ochieng, and Liam Gregoire, coming out strong after the first point was scored by Gregoire in the first minute. Less than one minute later the score was 4-0 after a dunk by Ochieng, sending the audience to its feet. This enthusiasm was carried throughout the first quarter, ending off with two 3-pointers from Sephani to make it 13-0.
The second quarter spotlighted Brit’s ability to both defend and attack counter-plays with speed and efficiency. It featured a 3-pointer from Jacob to open the quarter, and another 3-pointer from Sephani to lead Brit into half with a lead of 41-19.
The third quarter featured three consecutive baskets made by Gregoire and a skilled dribble by Liu across the court and through the other team to assist a point scored by Ochieng. Mestinsek closed the third quarter with two 3-pointers, allowing Brit a 62-27 lead.
In the final quarter Brit was slowed by the first five points scored against them, however after a quick substitution and regrouping they were back on their game. Mestinsek made both baskets for his free throw and an additional point after to make it 66-42. The crowd intimidated Windsor with noisemakers and chants to steer them off focus and miss 2/2 shots for their free throw. Mestinsek made a 3-pointer to end the game with the lead of 71-42.
